伦敦大学亚非学院创立于1916年，是英国惟一专门研究亚洲，非洲和中东的高等教育学府，也是全英学生十分多元化的大学之一，国际生比例超过50%。学校培养了多位国家元首，外交大使，各领域leader以及1位诺贝尔奖得主。

据2021QS世界大学排名，亚非学院的发展研究专业为世界第5名、人类学第16名、政治学第21名、其他如历史学、语言学、宗教等学科皆于世界前百之列。

亚非学院SOAS的主校区位于伦敦市中心的罗素广场，紧邻大英博物馆和大英图书馆等世界文化艺术中心。SOAS的校园内除了英式经典建筑风格的教学楼、办公楼外，还有久负盛名的艺术中心文莱美术馆和全英惟一珍藏亚洲、非洲与中东书籍与资料的图书馆。
